Learn how to Play Songs on a Guitar
How to Learn to play Guitar by yourself
When you are learning to play the guitar for the first time you have to start at the beginning and then work your way up to actually playing it. The first thing you need to do if you want to learn how to play the guitar, you need to learn the parts of the guitar. We will start at the top and work our way down.
Parts of the Guitar
The very top of your guitar is called the headstock, and on the headstock you have tuners or pegs that allow you to tune your guitar. The neck of the guitar has different marking on it under the strings. At the top of the neck is the nut of the guitar; this is where you feed the string through before you place them on the pegs. The dividers on the neck are known as frets and the dots in the middle of the frets are position markers. On the bottom of the guitar, you have a sound hole if you are playing an acoustic guitar or pickups if it is an electric one. There is also the bridge at the bottom part of the strings, the pick guard, and a place for the jack to plug it into an amplifier. Electric guitars also have nobs that allow you to adjust the volume of the guitar and the whammy bar or Tremolo by the bridge.
How to Hold It
When you are going to start to play the guitar you have to learn how to hold it. You want to take your non-dominant hand and hold the neck of the guitar. Sit down and rest it on your leg and use your dominant hand to play it. When you purchase a guitar try it out and make sure it feels right and get the right-handed guitar as well.
How to Tune It
Next, you need to tune your guitar, you can get a tuner that isn’t that expensive but if you don’t have one, you can use a piano or an online tuner to do it. You want to tune from lowest to highest string. The string from the bottom are E, A, D, G, B, and E again.
Chords for Beginners
After you have strummed the strings a few times, you can start to learn how to play some simple chords, the most basic and useful being the C, A, G, E, and D major chords. This will give you the foundation to play about 80% of the songs out there.
It helps to learn how to change back and forth between the chords if you create a set of random chords to practice. It's going to take you a while to get the right sound out of your guitar but it takes practice.
If you want to learn how to play the guitar, you need to take guitar lessons, whether that be online or in person. You can learn the basics and some people have taught themselves how to play but you need to keep at it. Your fingers will hurt at first, but the first time you play an actual song you will feel like you accomplished something which will bring you great satisfaction.
